Day 3 – Adelaide – Adelaide Hills – Murray River (L.D.)

Treat yourself to a real holiday! Slow down and soak in the picturesque gum-studded Adelaide Hills. Enjoy a one-way cruise along the Murray River for two or three nights on a luxury houseboat. Then indulge yourself yet again as you ‘taste your way’ around the famous Barossa Valley. Throughout this adventure you will travel in comfort and style with your private expert Guide/Houseboat Captain/Cook extraordinaire. You will spend three or four full days relaxing in the lap of luxury, discovering the finer points of South Australian wineries, the Murray River and the food and culture of these three famous and historic regions.

Leave from the delightful city of Adelaide, your private guide will take you through the nearby Adelaide Hills along a scenic route to the historic German township of Hahndorf for morning tea and a quick look in the specialty shops. From here we travel past horse studs, orchards and boutique wineries, to the Gorge Wildlife Park. Here you will have a great opportunity to have your photo taken holding or patting a koala and feeding the kangaroos. A very special experience where you may interact with some of our “friendlier” native animals! After your animal encounter it is now time to explore some of the famous wineries of the region. Enjoy a light lunch at one of the lovely cafés along the way. After lunch you will travel down to the eastern side of the Adelaide Hills through fertile foothills, to rendezvous with your luxury houseboat anchored at the banks of the Mighty Murray River. Sit back and open that bottle of wine as your houseboat captain takes you for a pleasurable one-way river cruise to find a suitably quiet site so you enjoy a private sunset dinner and stay for the night.

Overnight: Luxury Houseboat

Day 4 – Murray River (B.L.D.)

This morning is for relaxing and perhaps trying your luck at fishing for the magnificent Murray Cod or a tasty Silver Perch while your Captain cooks you a wonderfully aromatic breakfast. The day will pass lazily as you cruise the river, feasting your senses with the views, fresh air and sounds of abundant birdlife. Simply magnificent! Take the opportunity to just sit, relax and to find the next appealing gap in the gum trees to stop for lunch before floating on to the next destination for tonight’s dining, wining and fishing.

Overnight: Luxury Houseboat

Day 5 – Murray River (B.L.D.)

You will have another opportunity to observe the splendid displays at sunrise and sunset as the sun lights up the towering limestone cliffs and reflects back on to the river. Listen to the sounds of nesting water birds, fish feeding on the water’s surface, kookaburras and sulphur crested cockatoo’s calling. Perhaps you will even find the threatened Large-footed Myotis (Micro-Bats) that have been found living here under the cliffs. If you allow for a guided walk along the riverbanks you may also find the endangered Southern Hairy-nosed Wombats shuffling about whilst grazing as the sun sets.

Day 6 – Murray River – Barossa ValleyAdelaide (B.L.)

Stunning scenery, nature at its best! You will now begin to understand why so many retiring Australians pack up their belongings to go and live along the Murray River. After another relaxing breakfast we reluctantly leave the river as our guide continues the tour by road to the famous Barossa Valley. The Barossa Valley is Australia’s most important wine region. This picturesque valley, sprinkled with quaint towns and villages is a feast for the eye as well as the pallet. Your day will be spent with your private guide visiting a variety of wineries, large and small. You will be introduced to the major wine styles of the region, allowing you to concentrate on those wines that you most prefer. You will also have the opportunity to discover some of the local produce, as well as the history and culture of this historic region. Your day includes morning tea and lunch at a delightful winery restaurant, both allowing you glimpses of local life and produce.
